Winery     Vineyard     Self-Assessment

  • Thank you for your interest in the continued enhancement of the BC winegrowing industry through the implementation of sustainability practices!
  • We provide a voluntary certification scheme based on leading practices for people, planet, and prosperity; customized to accommodate characteristics and needs of the wine industry of British Columbia.
  • The Program offers two different certification standards: the SWBC Vineyard Standard, applicable for grape growing operations; and the SWBC Winery Standard, applicable for wine making operations.
  • Certify your vineyard, winery or both or complete the program as a self-assessment for free.
  • Certification runs from December 1 through November 30 of the following year. Participants can sign up at any time.
  • Participants implement and document the Standards to meet all Essential Criteria and select Continuous Improvement Criteria.
  • Independent inspectors verify the Standards annually between April 15 and July 15 on a three year cycle with complete records and onsite inspections.
  • Costs (including inspections*):
    • Winery:
      • $699/year (up to 75 short tons)
      • $65/year for each additional 15 short tons (up to $6000/year)
      • Note: Winery can be defined as multiple wineries under one parent company
    • Vineyard:

      • $4 for each additional acre
      • Note: One vineyard fee covers:
